Common questions

How do I move my diary to a new phone?

With an account and cloud backup on, sign in to Ila on the new phone. If the phone was restored from your Google backup, the backup unlocks by itself; otherwise use your password (email accounts) or your recovery code. Without an account, go to Settings → Back up now on the old phone, copy the encrypted file to the new one, then tap Restore an encrypted backup on the welcome screen and enter the same passphrase.

Do I need an account?

No. Ila works fully offline without one. An account is only for optional encrypted cloud backup, so you can restore on a new phone.

I signed in with Google. Do I need a backup password?

No. Ila keeps your backup key on your phone and, where Android supports it, in your phone's end-to-end encrypted Google backup. A phone restored from that backup unlocks by itself after you sign in. For a phone set up from scratch, use your recovery code.

What is the recovery code?

When cloud backup starts, Ila offers to save a recovery code to your password manager. Save it there or write it down. It unlocks your cloud backup if you forget your password or set up a new phone from scratch. Not even we can reset it.

How does the discreet icon work?

Settings → Privacy & reminders → Discreet icon lets you show Ila on your home screen as a neutral icon such as "Journal". Ila closes to apply the change; open it again from the new icon. Notifications also become neutral.

My reminder or heads-up came late

Android may delay reminders to save battery. Allow notifications for Ila, and turn off battery restrictions for Ila in your phone's settings. If Ila was force-stopped, open it once to reschedule reminders.

How accurate is the next-period estimate?

It's based on the typical length of your recent logged cycles, and appears after three complete cycles. It's a guide, not a prediction, and it isn't medical advice.

What do the optional usage stats include?

Only if you agree: which screens are used, app version and device type, approximate country, and broad weekly usage ranges. Never anything from your diary. See the privacy policy for the full list.

How do I delete my data?
